Europe's largest TV company, RTL operates more than 40 channels in a dozen countries, including Five in the UK, M6 (49%-owned) in France, and its flagship RTL Television in Germany. The company is also a major producer of TV content through UK-based FremantleMedia, known for such programs as American Idol (and local versions in more than 50 countries), Neighbours, and The Unteachables. RTL also operates some 30 radio stations throughout Europe. Media conglomerate Bertelsmann owns about 90% of the company.
