Overview
Rovi wants to help media junkies find their ideal fix - as long as they are willing to pay for it. The company develops and licenses copyright protection technology; middleware applications; metadata on music, movies, and television programming; and interactive programming guides. Telecom service providers, cable companies, movie studios, and makers of consumer electronics such as set-top boxes and DVD players use its technology to manage and protect digital content and track customer usage patterns. Rovi has expanded beyond video content protection into recorded music protection services in response to digital piracy. Clients have included Universal Studios, HBO, and Universal Music Group.
