Red Apple Group sells more than just apples in the Big Apple. Subsidiary United Refining, which processes 70,000 barrels of oil a day, distributes fuel to about 370 Country Fair, Red Apple Food Marts, and/or Kwik Fill branded gas stations/convenience stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Red Apple controls Gristede's Foods, a leading New York City supermarket chain. It also has real estate, aircraft leasing, and newspaper operations. The Red Apple Group is owned by Greek immigrant entrepreneur CEO John Catsimatidis, who, in a classic rags-to-riches story, started his business empire with one small grocery store in Manhattan and through shrewd business deals became a billionaire.
