QLT USA Company Description
QLT USA fought cancer one long-acting injection at a time. The company developed Eligard, a treatment for advanced prostate cancer, using its Atrigel sustained-release injection technology. The drug was approved in North America, where it was marketed by Sanofi-Aventis; in Europe, where Astellas Pharma and MediGene shared marketing rights; and in Australia and New Zealand, where Mayne Pharma sold the drug. QLT USA's parent, Canadian drugmaker QLT, divested the unit's topical acne medication Aczone in 2008 as part of its corporate restructuring program to focus on its Visudyne ocular therapy. QLT then sold the remaining operations of QLT USA to TOLMAR Holding (the contract manufacturer for Eilgard) in 2009.
