Providence and Worcester Railroad (P&W) is a regional freight railroad that operates over a network of about 520 miles of track in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. It hauls such goods as chemicals and plastics, construction aggregate, food, and forest and paper products for more than 150 customers. Major customers have included Cargill, Dow Chemical, Frito-Lay, Smurfit-Stone, and Tilcon Connecticut. P&W interchanges freight traffic with CSX, the New England Central Railroad, the New York and Atlantic Railroad, and the Springfield Terminal Railway.
