Primark Company Description
Founded in 1969, Primark (which does business as Penneys in Ireland) operates about 175 discount department stores throughout Ireland, the UK, and now Spain. The company targets the under-35-year-old, fashion-conscious market and features departments including womenswear, lingerie, childrenswear, menswear, footwear, accessories, and household textiles. Primark Stores has been expanding its retail footprint, most recently through the acquisition of the 120-shop Littlewoods chain of high street stores. The company also opened its first shop in continental Europe (Madrid) in 2006. Primark, a subsidiary of Associated British Foods, was founded by its chairman Arthur Ryan.
