PPL Company Description
PPL packs a powerful punch in Pennsylvania and the UK, where it distributes electricity to about 4 million customers through regulated subsidiaries PPL Electric Utilities (1.4 million customers) and Western Power Distribution Holdings (2.6 million electricity customers). PPL also generates electricity and sells it in wholesale and retail markets in North America. Other businesses include energy management services, natural gas and propane distribution, mechanical and electrical contracting, synthetic fuels production, and engineering services. In 2007 the company sold its Latin American companies and in 2008 it announced plans to sell its US propane and gas distribution units.
