The company sells about 4,000 items (imported from more than 50 countries) through 1,100-plus Pier 1 Imports stores in the US and Canada. Many of the products are handcrafted; the company favors natural materials, such as rattan and wood. To stay afloat, Pier 1 Imports has been closing stores and has shuttered its Pier 1 Kids chain. Pier 1 also sold its proprietary credit card business to JPMorgan Chase for $155 million.
