Petters Group Worldwide Company Description
Petters Group Worldwide is named for founder and chairman Tom Petters -- not for what it does. It's a collection of some 20 companies, most of which make and market consumer products. Holdings include SoniqCast (maker of portable, WiFi MP3 devices), leading instant film and camera firm Polaroid (purchased for $426 million in 2005), Sun Country Airlines (acquired in 2006), and Enable Holdings (online marketplace and auction for consumers and manufacturers' overstock). It has a minority interest in Fingerhut (consumer products via its catalog and Web site). Tom Petters founded the company in 1988. In October 2008 Petters Group Worldwide filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
