Overview
PETRÓLEO BRASILEIRO (PETROBRAS) isn't brash, but it is Brazil's top company and has operations in 24 countries. It explores for oil and gas and produces, refines, purchases, and transports oil and gas products. In 2009 the company reported proved reserves of 10.3 billion barrels of oil and 11 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas. In Brazil it also operates 11 refineries, an extensive oil and gas pipeline network, and more than 7,200 gas stations. Petrobras Distribuidora is Brazil's top retailer of oil products and fuel alcohol. Petrobras Argentina is a leading Argentine oil firm. Other units produce electricity (through 10 power plants), petrochemicals, and natural gas.
