It engages in exploration for oil and gas and in production, refining, purchasing, and transportation of oil and gas products. The company has proved reserves of 15 billion barrels of oil equivalent. It operates almost 12,900 wells, 16 refineries, 31,000 kilometers of pipeline, and 5,870 gas stations. Subsidiary Petrobras Distribuidora is Brazil's leading retailer of oil products and fuel alcohol. Petrobras Energía Participaciones is a leading Argentine oil company. Other units produce petrochemicals and natural gas. The Brazilian government owns 32% of PETROBRAS and 56% of its voting shares.
