Pacific Cycle Company Description

Don't tread on Pacific Cycle. Founded in 1983, it designs and markets bicycles and scooters under several brands, including DYNO, GT, InSTEP, Mongoose, Murray, Pacific Outdoors, Schwinn, and others. It's also a top maker of bicycle helmets in the US. The company's bikes are sold by mass merchandisers (Target, Wal-Mart), sporting goods chains (Dick's, The Sports Authority), and independent suppliers. Pacific Cycle, which outsources its manufacturing to China and Taiwan, got its operations in gear by buying Brunswick Bicycles, Schwinn/GT Corp., InSTEP, and PTI Sports, all within a few years. Chicago investment firm Wind Point Partners sold Pacific Cycle to Dorel Industries in 2004 for $310 million.
