OXiGENE Company Description

OXiGENE starves cancer to death. The company's lead drug candidate, Zybrestat, works by disrupting the functioning of blood vessels that deliver oxygen to tumors. The candidate is undergoing clinical trials as a treatment for one type of thyroid cancer. The company is also testing Zybrestat in other cancers, including lung, ovarian, and head and neck cancers. It is developing a topical form of the drug to treat age-related macular degeneration, an ocular disease that involves the abnormal formation of blood vessels. In addition, OXiGENE is working on a second-generation version of its oxygen-starving technology, and with Baylor University, is collaborating on some small molecule anti-cancer agents.
