Company Description

Trafficmaster hunts down traffic jams so that motorists can steer clear. The company's traffic detection network, which covers more than 8,000 miles of roadway in the UK, uses wireless technology to gather data from roadside sensors and deliver traffic conditions to car radios and cell phones. The company's Smartnav in-car navigation system, developed with Motorola, employs a call center to locate motorists and give destination instructions that takes traffic congestion into account. Subsidiary Teletrac provides fleet management services in the US. In 2010 Trafficmaster was taken private by equity investment firm Vector Capital.
