Company Description

Founded in 1995, the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) provides federal support (coordinating federal and local efforts, offering information and research, and providing grants) to prevent violence against women. Part of the Department of Justice, the OVW handles legal and policy issues for the DOJ, coordinates department efforts, provides national and international leadership, and disseminates information to help prevent and prosecute crimes against women. The OVW, which has an annual budget of about $400 million, administers grants from the DOJ to help state, local, and tribal governments train personnel, establish specialized domestic violence and sexual assault units, and assist victims of violence.
