Company Description

In the Russian natural gas market, NOVATEK is a major player. The company is the country's largest independent gas producer and second largest producer of natural gas (behind state-owned Gazprom). Established in 1994, NOVATEK explores for and processes natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons, boasting 6.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent reserves. It sells natural gas directly throughout the country. NOVATEK focuses its production on the prolific Yamal-Nenets region, the world's largest natural gas area. It also has part ownership of the SeverEnergia natural gas project. Customers include power plants, metallurgical plants, and wholesale gas suppliers. Volga Resources is the company's largest shareholder.
