Company Description

LightSquared wants to bring more choice to the North American broadband wireless market. The company is building a network that will enable it to offer high-speed wireless service on a wholesale basis through a group of about 40 dealers and resellers in North America. It plans to supplement services offered over its network through agreements with other carriers in the Americas and Caribbean regions, including Stratos Global and Waveburst Communications. LightSquared was dealt a blow by the FCC in 2012 when the agency halted the roll out of its service on the grounds that its wireless network would interfere with military and aviation GPS systems. The company is owned by Harbinger Capital Partners.
