Company Description

Imperial Oil, Canada's second-largest oil integrated company behind Suncor Energy, holds sway over a vast empire of oil and gas resources. Imperial is one of Canada's top natural gas producers, a leading refiner and marketer of petroleum products, and a major supplier of petrochemicals. It sells petroleum products, including gasoline, heating oil, and diesel fuel, under the Esso name and other brand names. In 2010 it reported proved reserves of 57 million barrels of oil, 1.7 billion barrels of bitumen, 681 million barrels of synthetic oil, and 576 billion cu. ft. of natural gas.  Most of the company's production comes from fields in Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Exxon Mobil owns about 70% of Imperial.
