Company Description

"Infamous" doesn't begin to cover Helmsley Enterprises and its former chairman, the late Leona Helmsley. The company holds the real estate empire amassed by the late Harry Helmsley over a period of 50 years. Leona, who was dubbed the "Queen of Mean" in her heyday, served time for tax evasion and had interests in such high-profile properties as the Helmsley Park Lane and the Helmsley Windsor. Other holdings include apartment buildings and millions of square feet of New York real estate, as well as a lease on the Empire State Building. The portfolio was valued at $5 billion before Harry Helmsley's death in 1997. Leona Helmsley sold more than $2 billion worth of property between 1997 and her death in 2007.
