Company Description

Gastar Exploration has hitched its star to exploring for natural gas in the US. Its primary areas of exploration and production are Deep Bossier (in East Texas), the Powder River Basin, and the Appalachian Basin. Once active in Australia, Gastar Exploration is now focusing on lucrative US properties, including Wyoming's Powder River Basin, one of the most active coalbed methane plays in the US. It also is exploring the Marcellus Shale play in  northern West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania. The company has proved reserves of 63.7 billion cu. ft. of natural gas and 12,000 barrels of oil. Chesapeake Energy owns 16% of the company.
