Company Description

Conrail, whose primary subsidiary is Consolidated Rail Corporation, is a switching and terminal agent for its railroad owners CSX and Norfolk Southern. It maintains a total of about 1,200 miles of track in heavily industrialized regions of the US, including Detroit, Philadelphia, and parts of northern New Jersey, collectively known as its shared asset areas. CSX and Norfolk Southern each pay Conrail fees for maintaining trackage and for access to serve all shippers in these areas. Also used as a switching and terminal agent, Conrail ensures that customers' freight is moved safely and swiftly among trains operated by CSX and Norfolk Southern.
