Company Description

Cash Technologies got its sweet ride back. The company in 2006 sold its Tomco Auto Parts (now named TAP Holdings) subsidiary to Champion Parts and focused on payment services and stored value payment cards. Two years later, Cash Technologies bought Champion's assets when that company filed for bankruptcy protection. The company is now rebuilding the auto parts business (primarily remanufactured fuel systems) and has gained back some of the country's largest auto parts retail customers. Its Claim-Remedi subsidiary still provides health care reimbursement services. As a result of the restructuring, though, Cash Technologies terminated the operations of its CashTechCard (corporate reimbursement cards) subsidiary.

    Overview

The US insurance agencies and brokerages industry includes about 135,000 establishments (single-location companies and branches of multi-location companies) with annual revenue of about $110 billion. Large companies include Marsh, Aon, Arthur J Gallagher, and State Farm. Despite the prominence of large companies in the commercial segment, the industry remains highly fragmented: the largest 50 firms only hold 20 percent of the total market. Many companies that primarily offer insurance products to businesses function mainly as brokers. Competitive Landscape Brief

Demand for auto parts is driven by new car sales, which are strongly affected by interest rates, and by the replacement market. Company profitability depends partly on the difficulty of manufacturing products and partly on demand volume, since many costs are fixed. Small companies can compete successfully by focusing on a small number of products or some highly technical ones. The industry in the US is capital-intensive: average annual revenue per employee is more than $350,000. The structure of the industry is complex, with most smaller companies (referred to as "tier 2" and "tier 3" suppliers) selling parts to larger suppliers (referred to as "tier 1" suppliers), which in turn sell component assemblies or modules to car and truck assemblers such as GM and Ford - collectively called OEMs.
