Company Description

The Tin Man never would have rusted had he been built with metal from Carpenter Technology. It processes basic raw materials such as cobalt, nickel, manganese, and titanium to make various corrosion-resistant materials. Most sales come from stainless steel products and alloys that provide special heat- or wear-resistance or special magnetic or conductive properties. Finished products come in billet, bar, rod, wire, and other forms. Carpenter also produces certain metal powders. Markets include aerospace, automotive, medical, and industrial companies. Aerospace accounts for more than 40% of sales. In 2012 Carpenter acquired rival Latrobe Specialty Metals for $558 million.
