The company, also known as the Carl-Zeiss Foundation, owns two independently operated businesses, Carl Zeiss and Schott AG. Carl Zeiss manufactures optical devices, such as camera and cinematography lenses -- for which it won two technical Academy Awards -- and microscopes, binoculars, and eyeglass lenses; it also produces optical systems for medical, astronomy, semiconductor and nanotechnology, and industrial applications.
