Brown doesn't mind getting its hands dirty -- with four-color or black and white -- with plenty of printer ink. Founded by Wayne "Bumps" Brown in 1949, Brown Printing Company is one of the largest publication printers in the US. The company prints magazines (more than 700 of them), catalogs, and inserts for some 400 customers, such as catalog retailer Hanover Direct and marketing company Valassis. Brown also provides direct-mail production and distribution through its Alliance List Services division, while its Specialty Printing segment concentrates on digital print services. The company is a unit of large European magazine publisher Gruner + Jahr (G+J).
