Company Description

Baltek's core expertise is manufacturing core materials, that is, materials where minimal weight and maximum strength are a must. Its balsa wood material is combined with resin or adhesive to form rigid sandwich panel components that can be used in a variety of technical applications. Sold under the Baltek brand, they are most often used in the manufacturing of aircraft, buses, yachts, high-speed trains, and wind turbine blades. Baltek and sister company Airex, which makes polymer foam material, are part of 3A Composites' core materials division. 3A Composites (formerly Alcan Composites) was acquired by Swiss group Schweiter Technologies from Rio Tinto for $349 million in late 2009.
