OM Group Company Description
Mmmmetals is the mantra for OM Group (OMG). The company produces metal-based specialty chemicals for about 50 industries, predominantly makers of batteries, chemicals, tires, and coatings. OMG produces cobalt-based chemistry products such as organics, inorganics, powders, and metals. About a third of the company's sales are in Finland; Japan accounts for nearly as much, with Nichia Corporation alone picking up 20% of sales. In 2007 OM Group significantly altered its business with the sale of its nickel operations, which had accounted for about half of its annual sales, to global nickel giant Norilsk Nickel. It also made a couple of acquisitions that year to help balance its business.
