Overview
Marine transportation company OceanFreight specializes in carrying dry cargo in a wet environment. The company operates a fleet of about a dozen vessels (consisting mainly of dry bulk carriers, but it also includes a few oil tankers), with an overall capacity of about 1.2 million deadweight tons (DWT). Its vessels, acquired second-hand, are deployed on medium- to long-term charters and are managed by third parties. Customers use OceanFreight's dry bulk vessels to carry cargo such as iron ore, coal, and grain. OceanFreight was formed in 2006 and bought its first vessels with proceeds from its 2007 IPO. DryShips acquired OceanFreight in late 2011.
