Northern Rock Company Description
Northern Rock has been the cornerstone for many home buyers in the UK. The mortgage and savings bank offers retail and wholesale residential mortgages, as well as savings accounts, personal loans, and insurance through more than 70 branches and mortgage centers throughout the UK. Northern Rock also offers savings programs though a single branch in Ireland and a Guernsey subsidiary offering offshore accounts. In 2008 the British government nationalized Northern Rock after the bank was snared by the global credit crisis. The company will be split into two parts -- a mortgage bank and an assets arm responsible for paying off Northern Rock's outstanding loans.
