The Newsweek/Daily Beast Company LLC
Overview
This news beast knows a thing or two about current events. The Newsweek/Daily Beast Company joint venture was formed after the late stereo equipment magnate Sidney Harman purchased the ailing Newsweek from The Washington Post in 2010 and merged it with IAC/InterActive's online current events magazine Daily Beast in 2011. Newsweek was founded in 1933 by Thomas Martyn, a former editor at Time magazine who wanted to strike up some competition. The Daily Beast was launched in 2008; its co-founder and editor-in-chief Tina Brown formerly served as editor of Vanity Fair and the New Yorker. The marriage of the two publishers speaks to the future of print media in the digital era. Harman died in 2011 at the age of 92.
