These Rangers are a long way from the Lone Star State. The New York Rangers professional hockey franchise represents New York City in the National Hockey League (along with its suburban rival, the New York Islanders), playing host in Manhattan's famous Madison Square Garden. Founded in 1926 by "Tex" Rickard, the franchise has garnered four Stanley Cup championships, the last in 1994. The team is owned and operated by Madison Square Garden, L.P. (MSG), a unit of Cablevision subsidiary Rainbow Media Holdings. MSG also runs the New York Knicks pro basketball team.
