These Knickers are still in style on the basketball court. The New York Knickerbockers basketball team, better known as the Knicks, is a storied franchise of the National Basketball Association. The team was founded in 1946 by Ned Irish after New York was awarded a franchise from the Basketball Association of America (which later became the NBA). The Knicks were defeated three times in the NBA Finals during the 1950s, but with stars such as Walt Frazier and Bill Bradley, the team won championships in 1970 and 1973. Owned by Madison Square Garden (MSG), a unit of Cablevisionsubsidiary Rainbow Media Holdings, the team shares that historic Manhattan venue along with the New York Rangers hockey team.
