Nationwide Building Society has constructed itself a solid foundation of financial services. Reigning as the king over a dwindling number of mutual building societies in the UK (and committed to staying mutual), the society offers consumers savings and deposit accounts, and such investment products as pension plans, unit trusts, and ISAs (individual savings accounts). Nationwide is also one of the country's leading mortgage lenders, writing mortgages with a variety of terms and rates, along with secured and unsecured personal loans and credit cards. Nationwide has some 900 branches and 15 million members. Since 2007 it has acquired Portman Building Society, the Derbyshire, and Cheshire Building Society.
