MTV Games
Overview
In a world where synergy is the name of the game, MTV Networks launched MTV Games to develop, publish, and market new video game franchises. The division is best known for publishing the Rock Band franchise, which it acquired through the $175 million purchase of game developer Harmonix (the original developer of Guitar Hero.) Rock Band and Rock Band 2 have sold more than 16 million units to date and The Beatles: Rock Band has sold more than 2 million units since it was released in late 2009. (Electronic Arts distributes the game.) MTV Games also cross-markets its reality television shows with casual games for Facebook and Apple's iPhone, in case you want to make your own Jersey Shore avatar.
