I want my MTV...games? In a world where synergy is the name of the game, as it were, MTV Networks launched a new division, MTV Games, that develops, markets, and publishes new video game franchises. The division also licenses MTV content to other game developers and reaps the royalties. MTV Games is best known for its Rock Band franchise, which it acquired through the $175 million purchase of game developer Harmonix (the original developer of Guitar Hero). Rock Band follows the Guitar Hero model but extends the idea past just a guitar to allow players to step into the spandex pants of members a rock band, playing along on a drum kit, guitar, and microphone.
