Motor Coach Industries Company Description

Do you know what John Madden and an inmate of the Los Angeles County jail have in common? Traveling in buses made by Motor Coach Industries International (MCI). The company's luxury buses are up to 45-feet long and offer such comforts as full kitchens and steam showers. Inmates who travel on the company's specially secured vehicles enjoy fewer amenities. MCI also makes coaches used by public transit systems. It operates 16 sales and service centers in the US and Canada; it also sells used coaches and offers conversion shells. Citing rising fuel and steel costs, MCI filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy from creditors in September 2008 and emerged in April 2009. Franklin Mutual Advisers is the new majority owner.
