Molinos Competition
Now Viewing Molinos's competition in: Fruit and Vegetable Processing
Recent Developments
Fruit, Vegetable Marketing Ineffective - US fruit and vegetable marketing to children that uses cartoon characters is ineffective, according to a study by the charity Products for Kids. Half of parents aren't more likely to buy a product sponsored by a cartoon character, according to study results. About 30 percent of adults say that they'd probably not or definitely not buy produce in packaging with a cartoon character on it.
Farm Bill Provision may Benefit Processors - Fruit and vegetable processors are having difficulty finding farmers to grow fruits and vegetables, according to a report by major processor Seneca Foods. Restrictions in federal farm programs that discourage vegetable and fruit production are a key cause. A provision in the US Farm Bill that would allow 75,000 acres of Midwest cropland enrolled in farm programs to be diverted to fruit and vegetable production for processing-only may help alleviate the problem.
Canned Fruit Imports Mixed - US imports of canned peaches fell 33 percent during the first two months of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007, according to The Food Institute; imports from China, which increased significantly, accounted for 70 percent of total canned peach imports to the US. Canned pineapple imports rose 11 percent, and mandarin and satsumas imports decreased 5 percent.
Competitive Landscape
Demand is driven by food consumption, which depends on population growth. The profitability of individual companies depends on efficient operations because products are commodities subject to intense price competition. Companies compete largely based on cost and their ability to distribute the finished product. Large companies have advantages in distribution operations. Small companies can compete effectively in local or regional markets.
