Mobistar S.A.
Overview
Mobistar leads the French advance across Belgian lines by attacking two high-growth opportunities in telecommunications: mobile phone and data services. The company, 50%-owned by Orange, is Belgium's #2 wireless operator (behind Belgacom's Proximus), serving one-third of the market. The company has nearly 4 million subscribers who use its digital GSM (global system for mobile communications) wireless network. Mobistar is building a Belgian fiber-optic network to provide business voice, data, and Internet services, and it provides indirect fixed-line phone service to consumers. It expanded its services for business and carrier customers with the 2010 acquisition of KPN's business in Belgium for €65 million.
