Overview
Miramax Film Corp. depends on the independent. The company is known for its critically-acclaimed indie films that also perform well at the box office, such as and Pulp Fiction and Shakespeare in Love. More recent hits include The Queen and No Country for Old Men. Miramax was formed in 1979 by brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein. They sold the company to media giant Walt Disney in 1993. After a falling out with the corporate parent in 2005, the Weinsteins left to form their own production business, The Weinstein Company. In 2010 Disney closed Miramax. Later that year it sold the label to a group of investors known as Filmyard Holdings, who plan to focus on distributing the Miramax library of 700 titles.
