Metromedia Company Description
Metromedia once had a lot of irons in a lot of fires, but it is juggling fewer and fewer. The holding company's units include Metromedia Restaurant Group (MRG), which owns or franchises Ponderosa and Bonanza steak restaurants; Metromedia Power, which offers electricity brokering service to businesses; and Metromedia Energy, an independent energy marketer. Metromedia Energy delivers more than 20 billion cu. ft. per year of commercial and industrial natural gas to customers in the Northeast, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic. In recent years the company has divested many of its assets including telecommunications ventures in Europe and the former Soviet Union. Chairman John Kluge controls about 20% of Metromedia.
