Overview
Max Mara is taking high-end fashion to the max. Though the company is maximally secretive, Max Mara clothes some of the finest women in the world. It touts nearly 20 labels, including Marina Rinaldi (full-sized fashions); Sportmax, Penny Black, and Marella (lower priced lines); and Pianoforte (evening attire). The company is one of Italy's largest fashion firms, with about 1,800 boutiques in 90 countries worldwide, including China, under the Max Mara (luxe) and Max & Co. (youthful, trendy) names, and it sells through stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Barneys. Started in the 1950s, Max Mara is owned and run by the family of founder Achille Maramotti, who died in 2005.
