Marsh Supermarkets Company Description
Marsh Supermarkets is no backwater grocery chain. A leading retailer in Indianapolis, Marsh operates about 100 supermarkets under the Marsh Supermarkets, Marsh Hometown Markets, and O'Malia's Food Markets banners in central Indiana and western Ohio. Its Crystal Food Services unit (#1 in Indianapolis) offers cafeteria management, upscale catering, and vending, concession, and coffee services for clients. Founded in 1931, the family of late founder Ermal Marsh sold the company in 2006 to an affiliate of the private equity firm Sun Capital Partners for about $325 million. The new owners in early 2009 sued former CEO and son of the founder Don Marsh alleging fraud by diverting company funds for his personal use.
