Overview
Marsh Supermarkets is no backwater grocery chain. A leading retailer in Indianapolis, Marsh operates about 105 supermarkets under the Marsh Supermarkets, Marsh Hometown Markets, and O'Malia's Food Markets banners in central Indiana and western Ohio. About 40% of the stores have pharmacy departments. Its floral business -- Marsh Floral Fashions -- operates floral and gift departments inside Marsh stores. Founded in 1931, the family of late founder Ermal Marsh sold the company in 2006 to an affiliate of the private equity firm Sun Capital Partners for about $325 million. The new owners in early 2009 sued former CEO and son of the founder Don Marsh alleging fraud by diverting company funds for his personal use.
