With more than 1,200 locations in France and about a dozen other European countries, it is Europe's #1 perfume retailer in terms of outlets. Nearly half of its perfume shops and beauty institutes are located in France, where it has a 30% market share. Marionnaud Parfumeries, founded in 1984 by its former CEO Marcel Frydman, was acquired by Hong Kong-based A.S. Watson. Marionnaud's parent company aims to bring the French perfume chain to Asia. To that end the company opened its first shop in Hong Kong in 2008, following the launches of other stores in Shanghai and Manila.
