Madison Square Capital is banking on its sound investment decisions. The real estate investment trust (REIT) manages a portfolio consisting primarily of residential (single-family) mortgage-backed securities; it also plans to invest in debentures issued directly by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or the US Department of the Treasury, as well as other debt instruments guaranteed by the US government. Formed in 2008, the company is internally managed; some members of its senior management are also employees of Highland Financial Holdings, an alternative asset management firm that specializes in mortgage- and asset-backed securities. Madison Square Capital filed to go public in April 2008.
