M&T Bank Corporation has made quite a splash in the mid-Atlantic. It is the holding company of M&T Bank, which operates more than 700 branches in seven states and provides access to more than 1,600 ATMs in the region. M&T Bank offers deposit accounts and loans to individuals and small and mid-sized businesses. Its subsidiaries provide brokerage, leasing, loan servicing, and other services. M&T Life Insurance reinsures credit life, accident, and health insurance purchased by customers. M&T Bank also owns an insurance agency, a mortgage reinsurance firm, an auto loan trading company, and other businesses. The company is buying Provident Bankshares.
