Thanks to the resurgence of hardwoods, Lumber Liquidators is in the money. The nation's largest specialty retailer of hardwood flooring, Lumber Liquidators sells more than 25 domestic and exotic wood species of both pre-finished and unfinished hardwood flooring from about 125 stores in more than 40 states. The company also sells flooring online, by catalog, and from its Virginia call center. Brands include Bellawood, Builder's Pride, Schôn, and more. Founded in 1994 by its chairman Tom Sullivan, Boston-based private equity firm TA Associates acquired a one-third stake in the company in 2004 (with Sullivan holding on to the rest). Three years later, Sullivan and TA Associates took Lumber Liquidators public.
