Los Angeles MTA Company Description

Thanks to the bus and rail systems of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, known to Angelenos as Metro, millions of passenger journeys involve modes of transportation other than cars on freeways. On its own and through contractors, Metro maintains a fleet of more than 2,600 buses that serve about 190 routes. About 1.2 million passenger boardings take place on a typical weekday. Metro's rail system spans about 75 miles and incorporates more than 60 stations; weekday boardings average about 260,000. In addition, Metro helps pay for car pool lanes and bicycle paths. A board made up of elected officials and appointees oversees the agency.
