Overview
In the City of Angels, it takes more than wings to get around. Thanks to the bus and rail systems of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA or Metro), millions of passengers are carried through one of the most populous counties in the US via Metro Bus, Metrolink (commuter rail), and Metro Rail (subway and light rail). Together, they cover an extensive freeway network, four airports, and various ports. LACTMA operates these systems and it serves as a transportation planner, designer, and builder. A 14-member board consisting of elected officials (including the mayor) and appointees secures the budget (approximately $4 billion) and selects the projects for Metro.
