Live Nation holds center stage as the world's largest producer and promoter of live entertainment. The company owns or operates some 150 venues in North America and Europe. Annually, more than 60 million people attend some 28,000 Live Nation events. Live Nation also owns House of Blues venues through HOB Entertainment. The firm is focused on its music operations, and having sold its North American theatrical business, which produced touring Broadway shows. Through a deal with pop star Madonna, Live Nation owns a stake in the Material Girl's music, including albums, tours, and merchandise. It has a similar deal with Jay-Z. Once a part of radio giant Clear Channel Communications, Live Nation was spun off in 2005.
